The Ocean Race returns to Alicante in 2023

In the 2022-23 regatta sailors will compete in the IMOCA 60 class or the VO65 class boat. Both classes of racing sailboats are capable of reaching high speeds, and in the right conditions, can cover 600 nautical miles or even more in 24 hours . There are currently five teams registered for the IMOCA 60 class and six for the VO65 class. The Ocean Race is one of the three great events in the world of sport, along with the Olympic Games and the America's Cup.

The winner is the team that ends up recording the shortest time. The 2022-23 Ocean Race will visit nine cities over a six-month period, starting in Alicante on January 15, 2023. The race will end in Genoa, Italy.

The IMOCA 60 has a higher level of customization than the VO65, a category in which all the boats are identical in every way, so the teams are extremely even. In the IMOCA 60 category, designers can experiment with hull and sail shapes within established parameters. However, masts, booms and standing rigs are a design. In the IMOCA category you compete with mixed crews of four or five sailors, while in VO65 you compete with mixed crews of at least seven sailors.
