Hunter 49 - Description

Hunter offers three distribution options in the 49: the standard version of three cabins, a four cabin option or a three cabin distribution with an office in the starboard pop cabin. PS tested the standard design.

A simple but elegant set of teak steps hanging from a stainless steel frame leads to an airy and well-lit interior. A kitchen in the form of L to starboard offers more than enough storage space for food and dishes. It features Corian counters surrounded by 1-inch teak violins, two stainless steel sinks, a combination of three-burner Seaward Princess stove and oven with extractor hood, a combined microwave and coffee machine unit and front load cooling units. There is also a wardrobe to store and dry the dishes equipped with drainage and fan. Of course, there are always commitments on board the ships, and two here are evident: access to the freshwater collector involves removing the trash container, and to enter or leave the starboard pop cabin you have to go through the kitchen. For the emergency exit of any of the stern cabins, the occupants can remove a specially designed panel (which is labeled as such) and climb to escape on the other side.

The living room is organized around a 42-by-36-inch teak table that can be lowered to form a double bunk. At this table you could comfortably sit six diners. The sofas on each side of the living room could be enough as bunk beds, but we would have to add fabrics to sotavento.

The entrance near the aisle of courtesy is illuminated by a rope lighting arch embedded in the ceiling. This is an elegant touch, but this gap will certainly be attractive as a handle for those descending from the deck. Because it is not designed to withstand any weight, a sturdy and obvious rail should be added here.

Each pop cabin has numerous drawers and cabinets, plus a dressing room and a queen size bunk. They share a bathroom (a port), which has a private door leading to the port's stern cabin. The proven PS boat starboard cabin included an optional Splendide combined washing machine-dryer installed in a cabinet, but still left enough room to store the occupants' belongings for a week on board. Despite that advantage, it is the owner's front cabin that will really spoil its users. A sized peninsula bunk bed occupies most of the space, but there is still a generous amount of storage space. A private bathroom with sink and starboard toilet and a separate bath cabin is included. The countertops are from Corian and the cabinets are from teak.

Here are two pendant cabinets covered with cedar and two large drawers under the bunk. Natural ventilation is done through twin springs; Our only complaint here is that the airflow can be slightly stagnated in the front section of the cabin, as the hatches are located at the rear end of this space.
Fuel and water tanks are made of polyethylene. In the opinion of PS, the material is not a good option for a large diesel tank because such tanks generally lack inspection ports, making them very difficult to clean and inspect in the probable case of contamination. (We will explore the theme of the selection of the fuel tank in depth in a next edition). Hunter's tanks allow cleaning access with a vacuum cleaner or a high-pressure hose through a single 2-inch diameter hole at the top where the tank is located. enter the fuel collection tube. The hole is directly above a sink in the tank where it is likely to accumulate large matter. In most ships, other systems are easily accessible to facilitate regular maintenance. The propane locker is located just outside the starboard helm, with enough drainage out.

Hunter uses only passing helmets and bronze sea caps under the floating line, and these are essentially grouped into deep sinks in two locations, again to facilitate maintenance.

The batteries of the house and starter are in separate compartments under the sole of the living room. Each bank secured in place and the battery terminals were protected. (The ground power system of this boat is wired for 220 volts to accommodate the washing machine-drying unit). This type of preventive approach is important on any boat, but especially on a passing boat. Taking this into account, we were a little surprised to discover that some of the removable panels of the sole were not insured with hardware.

The engine is accessed through a top panel to perform fluid checks, but it can be fully exposed by removing all the surrounding structure (a five-minute process). This compartment is soundproofed with two-inch foam and there is room for more if the owner considers it necessary. At 2740 rpm, we recorded a quiet noise of 76 dB (a normal conversation is 60 dB) at the base of the stairs. The engine compartment comes in series with an automatic firefighting system
